Sorrento is creating its first  Comprehensive Plan in more than 25 years.

The first step is a Community Engagement Survey available in paper or online. The purpose of this anonymous survey is to gather your opinions about Sorrento facilities and services, land use, quality of life, and priorities for future investment.

The survey is now CLOSED! Thank you to everyone who participated. Please find the survey results in the "Plan Updates" section

What is a Comprehensive Plan?

Sorrento faces challenges in providing essential services, housing, transportation, and more. A comprehensive plan will take a systematic approach to addressing these challenges. The comprehensive plan will consist of:

1. an inventory of current conditions

2. goals set through public input

3. strategies to achieve Sorrento's established goals

4. guiding policies which support Sorrento's goals and strategies

The plan will be used to guide the select board and planning board in decision-making and town investments. Therefore, robust public input and community engagement is an integral part of the comprehensive planning process. Ultimately, the comprehensive plan will establish collective town vision for future growth over the next decade.

3 Reasons to have a Comprehensive Plan

1. Planning for the Town’s Future:

Our Comprehensive Plan will create a shared vision that will help us make important decisions about our limited natural and fiscal resources, in areas such as investments in facilities and working waterfronts.

2. Legal Protection

A Comprehensive Plan provides legal protection for our local ordinances in areas such as land use, shoreland zoning and growth.

3. Getting funding: access to Federal, State, Local and Private Funding

A comprehensive plan will qualify Sorrento for the over $80 million in annual state grants and loan programs, saving the town and you the tax payer money too.
